Where did George Mead receive his artistic education?

In 1971, George Mead studied at Boston's Museum School of Fine Arts. In 1972, he enrolled at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, with a bachelor's degree in drawing in 1976 and a master's degree in painting in 1978 while receiving a painting scholarship. He also pursued his Master's degree by enrolling in graduate courses at the University of California, Berkeley. Robert Bechtel and Richard McLean taught him during his graduate studies in painting, concentrating on photorealism. How did WET Studios start?

WET Studios was started by Mead in 1980. It originally was a large scale design and paint studio that focused on advertisement and scenic painting for national campaigns and tours. As the years passed and digital technology developed, Mead wanted to continue with his love of painting. While periodically creating works of digital art, Mead began developing series of artworks for both commissions and his own creative satiation. Throughout this site, we invite you to view previous works that were created for larger scenic elements and advertisements. There are also countless examples of paintings that truly capture George Mead's artistry and talent.

Can I commission a piece of work?

Yes, you are able to commission a piece of artwork. If you are wishing to have a unique, individualized piece created, please use the Contact form, email, or call (415) 624 -5124. Once you have been put in contact with George Mead, you will be able to discuss details regarding the commission and negotiate a price for the piece.

How long will it take for a commissioned piece to be completed?

This depends entirely on the size and nuance of the piece. After an initial conversation, George Mead will undergo a planning/design stage to figure out his approach to the specific piece. At this point, there should be an estimate on the size, timeline, and cost of the project. Once this has been approved, the piece will begin development. Larger pieces with more nuanced detail will take longer to complete.

Can I purchase prints of preexisting work?

Eventually, you will be able to purchase prints directly through this website. For now, if you are interested in purchasing a print of a preexisting work, please contact WET Studios through the Contact form, email, or call (415) 624-5124.
